Trump Administration Moves to Block Maryland Offshore Wind Project
The TRUMP administration is escalating its opposition to offshore wind energy, targeting a $6 billion project near Maryland. The Interior Department filed to remand and vacate permits for the Maryland Offshore Wind Project, approved under Biden in 2024. The development, slated to begin construction next year, would deploy up to 114 turbines off Ocean City.
Simultaneously, regulators halted work on an 80%-complete Orsted A/S wind farm NEAR Rhode Island. These actions signal heightened political risks for the US offshore wind industry. "We remain confident our permits are legally sound," said US Wind's Nancy Sopko, defending the project's rigorous approval process.
